Apostolic Calling in Community

Let's take a closer look at “Apostolic Calling in Community”.

  • Apostolic, from the Greek word “apostolos,” means “one who is sent”.  Think of an apostle as a person who has received a commission.

Increasingly, we strive to walk out our calling from God beyond the edges of the Kingdom – to unengaged Muslim peoples. (Romans 1:5, see also 1:1 and 15:20)  This emphasis on pioneering involves embracing risk, appreciating complexity and demonstrating a capacity for flexibility.
  • Calling refers to divine selection … those Jesus calls to do this work (Luke 6:13).  An apostle is not called by an organization or by popular vote, but divinely, by Christ Himself.
  • Community encompasses every man, woman and child in our movement. Very practically, it ensures that each is in a network of relationships that is overseeing our ministries and watching out for our souls.

Strengthening community means going deeper in living out the “one anothers” of Scripture … in speaking the truth in love, with an eagerness for coaching and accountability.

Actively stretching this core value not only improves our coordination … it’s great for the heart!
